Episode #234: Controlling Their Own Destiny

San Francisco Giants’ Brandon Crawford signed a two-year extension worth $32 million last week that will keep him in SF through the 2023 season. (Sports Illustrated)

Chad, Eric and Willie talk about the last two weeks of Giants baseball, including Brandon Crawford’s 2 year, $32 million extension and how that might affect Posey and Belt, the fact that they went 10-3 and only increased their NL West lead by a game, the dramatic come-from-behind victories, the taxed bullpen, and how this team continues to be the best in baseball with its depth, consistency and resilience. We also make fun of our pre-season win predictions and look forward to how the Giants can clinch the West, something we didn’t even consider back in April. SAN FRANCISCO, CA – JUNE 26: San Francisco Giants’ Mike Yastrzemski (5) celebrates with teammate Curt Casali (2) after hitting the game winning walk-off RBI double in the 10th inning of their game at Oracle Park in San Francisco, Calif., on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Chad, Eric and Dills chat about the team with the best record in the bigs. Over the past week, they won 4 in a row before dropping their last 2. We had fun talking about the 2 game sweep, including the crazy extra inning games against the Angels and A’s and the frustration of going 0-13 with runners in scoring position in last night’s loss to the Dodgers. Plus, an all-star update, injuries, a Giant gets suspended for PEDs, foreign substances, and more!

Chad, Eric and Dills chat about the team with the best record in the bigs and their power surge to the top of the homerun charts and how Farhan’s moves are paying big dividends. We review the series in Texas and Washington and focus on the sweep of Arizona and series win against Philly. Who’s hot and who’s not, all star game voting, the pen has improved tremendously and playoff odds are increasing by the day and at this point, we’d be surprised if they don’t make the playoffs.

Episode #206: Giants are Exactly Average

Giants’ outfield Alex Dickerson had a performance for the ages earlier this week, with 3 homeruns, 2 doubles and 7 RBI in a 23-5 whooping of the Rockies in Colorado. He set the franchise record for extra base hits in a game. Photo: Associated Press

The Giants hit .500 after a 4-2 week and now sit at 21-21, with zero run differential, so right in the middle, baby! But, in 2020, that’s good enough to get you in the playoffs! The Giants currently hold the 7th seed, virtually tied with the Marlins and just ahead of the Rockies. There are several other teams in contention, of course.

Chad and Eric discuss a good week in Giants’ baseball. From a record 23 run murder of the Rockies to familiar face of Madison Bumgarner returning to the Oracle Park bump, there was a lot to talk about. Just 18 games left in the season, and the Giants control their own destiny.

Episode #205: C’mon Giants, Hang in There!

Frame grab from the end of the Giants’ 1984 commercial that featured their slogan, “C’mon Giants, Hang in There!”

You can download the episode here, or stream it below (video a bit more down)!

Borrowing the slogan of mediocrity from the 1984 campaign, the Giants are indeed hanging in there thanks to a shortened season, and the expanded playoffs. After going 3-3 this week, they sit just a half game out of the 8th seed in the National League, with only 24 games remaining. This week saw the Giants with an epic walk-off homerun against the Dodgers, a double-header sweep to the same team, a boycott of a game, winning two of three in Arizona, old guys catching fire, and….no trades. None at all. This is so 2020.

We’re excited to announce that TortureCast has joined the SportsHosts community as one of their official Content Creators.

Episode #204: The Giants are Going Streaking!!

Just as we counted the Giants out last week after having lost 5 in a row and 7 of 8, including those 3 gut-wrenching 9th inning blown leads, the Giants turn it around and hammer out 6 straight wins (and counting) to get themselves right back in the wild card hunt at 14-16. Chad, Eric, and Willie get together to discuss each game of the week, Joey Bart’s MLB debut (finally! boy can he rake!), Yaz’s MVP consideration (he leads MLB in offensive WAR!) and sadly, the end to the reunion with Hunter Pence as he was designated for assignment after posting a miserable .096 average (5-52). We’re going to miss The Reverend.

Episode #188: Is this Real Life?

bumgarnerdbacks

Madison Bumgarner signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks in December. The Giants lost their ace and may face him up to 5 times each the next 5 seasons.

Happy New Year! Oh, and the 49ers are in the Super Bowl!!

We last recorded in November, and WOW, what a difference a holiday season can make. MadBum signed with Arizona, the cheating scandal saw three managers and a GM get fired, Farhan Zaidi is acquiring young talent faster than his hairline is receding. Eric and I talk about the off-season moves, the Hall of Fame vote, the mostly brand-new coaching staff, including the first MLB full-time female coach, Vegas doesn’t like the Giants, and much more in this episode of TortureCast!

Episode #176: Yaz Hands!

San Francisco Giants v Arizona Diamondbacks

Mike Yastrzemski watches his third homerun of the game leave the yard in the 11th inning of a 10-9 Giants victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Both teams hit 6 homeruns each, 1 shy of the MLB record set just a month ago. Photo by Getty Images.

Eric said the Giants needed to go at least 4-2 this week, and well, they did. Although, we were hoping for a 5-1 week, Bum laid an egg in the last game vs Arizona. We recap a solid week of Giants baseball which saw Mike Yastrzemski hit 3, yes, 3 homeruns in a game. Last time that happened was Jarrett Parker…where is he now? We also saw the MLB debut for Logan Webb, Pillar light it up, Belt’s granny, MadBum’s masterpiece vs Oakland, and Will Smith’s meltdowns.

We review the week in Giants’ baseball, stroll down memory lane, cover transactions, the upcoming series, and bring back “Guess that Giant!” Hope you enjoy episode 176, we did!

Episode #171: Giants are Heating up!

LongoriaHomer

Giants’ Evan Longoria (10) watches his 12th homerun of the season sail into the left field stands in the 7th inning against the St. Louis Cardinals at Oracle Park on July 7, 2019. The homerun broke up a no-hitter and a scoreless tie and the game eventually ended with a 1-0 Giants’ win. Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images

You can download the episode here, or stream it below!

The Giants have won 6 of 7 and head into the All Star break just 5 1/2 games out of the second wild card spot. The problem is that they have seven teams in front of them, and that is why the oddsmakers give the Giants only a 0.7% chance of making the playoffs. That said, we can still enjoy some good baseball as of late with a tremendous week by Evan Longoria, who hit 5 homeruns, including 4 in San Diego, the Shark is pitching very well, Dickerson continues to swing a hot bat, and Will Smith heads into the break converting 23 of 23 save opportunities and dipping his ERA under 2.

Chad and Eric talk about the last two weeks of Giants’ baseball, Chad’s experience covering the Diamondbacks game last Sunday, they give their All Star game and HR derby predictions, and look forward to baseball before the trading deadline to see if GM Zaidi will pull the trigger on any trades to help the farm system for future Giants’ teams.
