The Giants are guaranteed to have their best monthly record of the season. They won nine straight series. They went 6-3 on the road trip, yet here they are, only 1.5 games ahead of the Dodgers. Eric and Chad talk about how this resilient team will deal with positive COVID tests for Donovan Solano and Alex Wood, and a sick Johnny Cueto, all while they head into huge series with the Brewers and Dodgers. Episode #235: Pinch-Hit Bombs Rule

San Francisco Giants’ LaMonte Wade Jr. uses the “Wakanda Forever” gesture as he approaches first base after hitting a go-ahead 2-run homer in the top of the 9th inning to steal a victory away from the A’s. (Jeff Chiu/AP)

What an exhausting week of Giants’ baseball, filled with a heart-crushing defeat, victories snatched away from losses at the last minute, and back to back jacks twice, Chad and Eric talk about it all. The Giants maintain their NL West lead, but it did slip a bit to the streaking Dodgers. We also talk about the pros and cons of a team that relies, more than any other team, on the long-ball to score runs. We’re in the last lap of the mile now, and the Giants have their eyes surprisingly set on capturing the division title for the first time in nine years. All of our episodes are also available on Apple, Spotify, Google, Stitcher, and most major podcast platforms.

Episode #234: Controlling Their Own Destiny

San Francisco Giants’ Brandon Crawford signed a two-year extension worth $32 million last week that will keep him in SF through the 2023 season. (Sports Illustrated)

You can download the episode here, or stream it below!

Chad, Eric and Willie talk about the last two weeks of Giants baseball, including Brandon Crawford’s 2 year, $32 million extension and how that might affect Posey and Belt, the fact that they went 10-3 and only increased their NL West lead by a game, the dramatic come-from-behind victories, the taxed bullpen, and how this team continues to be the best in baseball with its depth, consistency and resilience. We also make fun of our pre-season win predictions and look forward to how the Giants can clinch the West, something we didn’t even consider back in April. Episode #209: So Close

Giants’ Austin Slater takes a look at the very last pitch of the 2020 season. It was somehow called a strike, along with at least a dozen more like it. This pitch is a microcosm of the last week of the season that saw the Giants fall flat on their face, losing 3 in a row, 4 of 5 to miss the playoffs by a tiebreaker with the Brewers.

You can download the episode here, or stream it below (video a bit more down)!

One game. One hit. One play. Essentially, if the Giants had one fewer mistake or one more rally over this entire 60 game season, they would be in the postseason. Yes, they exceeded expectations, but this is a bit painful to see them lose 3 in a row to close out 2020.

Chad, Eric and Willie give the eulogy for the 2020 Giants’ season. They were as close as you could get to not only getting into the playoffs, but having a chance to knock off the Dodgers as well. Instead, that honor will go to the 29-31 Milwaukee Brewers, who had the tiebreaker (intradivisional record) over the Giants by one game. The NL West is far superior to the central, but the central will see four of their teams in the playoffs, a record, of course.

Yes, there were mistakes…many mistakes that cost the Giants ultimately. Namely, in the last week, they lost their last three games and four of five. That’s not playoff-caliber baseball. They blew a 2-run save on Friday night against the Padres, blew numerous chances with the bases loaded on Thursday against the Rockies, and committed a crucial error that led to three unearned runs in the finale that they only lost by a single run. Then, umpire Rob Drake didn’t help things by taking away four ABs in the final two innings from the Giants with some horrendous strike calls. Poor Austin Slater!

We choose our Giants’ MVPs, talk a little about the future, make our first round playoff picks, and essentially, had a group therapy session. If you need some therapy after the way this season ended, we’re here for you. Take a seat on the couch and let 100 minutes of Giants’ therapy wash over you.

Episode #153: Giants May Never Win Again

ryderjones

Ryder Jones dislocated his left patella on a swing. No one touched him. WTF? Yep, this encapsulates your 2018 Giants. Photo: Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports

You can download the episode here, or stream it below!

Yes, that show title is hyperbole. But, the Giants have lost 8 in a row, plunging them to 8 games under .500 and 11 games back in the West. They were swept in Colorado and Milwaukee, making it their first winless 6 game road trip since 2015. Although their pitching hasn’t been horrible, the pen and starting pitching is choosing bad spots to fail. Their hitting, or lack thereof, is the main culprit. The difference between their home (+9) and road (-17) records is astounding.

Ryder Jones going down for the season on a swing just encapsulates this injury-ridden season too well. MadBum, for all of his fire and fury, plunked Ryan Braun after their words earlier in the game, was met by a grand slam by Jonathan Schoop, the best retribution the Brewers could have asked for…and that’s after 3 of their players and manager were ejected for their reactions from the plunking.

With less than three weeks left in the season, the Giants will try and finish with some competitiveness, and hopefully be spoilers for a team or two. They will also try and avoid their longest losing streak in SF club history at 10 games (1996 and 1985). Hopefully it will never get to their overall club record at 13 games (1902 and 1944).

Thanks for the wonderful comments on YouTube, and hopefully you’ll root for this team as they close out this miserable season. Besides, football is back, and a good distraction, anyway.
